Musical History of Rick Waggoner

Musical Influences

Rick Waggoner was born in Clarksville, TN.  He loved music from a young age.   His father bought him his first Slingerland snare drum when he was 5 years old.

Musical Career

Rick's family moved to Columbus, IN, when he was young.  He played in school bands through high school, and played with just about any band who could use a drummer, playing all styles of music from R&B, Big Band, Rock & Roll, and Country.

Rick joined the Fuzzy Sewell Band in 1966 and moved to Terre Haute, IN.  He was drafted into the US Army in the fall of 1968. He rejoined Fuzzy and the band in 1971, playing jobs in southern Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Since leaving Fuzzy Sewell, he has played with several area bands, including the Northwest Express Road Show, The FanFare Band, Dave Kyle & Variety, The Ambush Band, The Mirage Band, and Brad Anderson & FanFare.

Rick has owned and operated his State Farm Insurance Agency in Terre Haute for the past 40 years.

Memorable Moments

While with Fuzzy Sewell, Rick did several shows with Merle Haggard & the Strangers.

Hall of Fame

Rick was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a part of the Class of 2006.  He was selected to serve on the original HOF Board of Directors that Alva Grindle formed in 2005.  When Alva became ill and passed away in 2007, Rick assumed the offices of Board Chair and Treasurer, which he held until 2010.
